AC-DC power supply meets international medical safety standards

The EME05 series of ultra-compact, single output, 5 Watt AC-DC power supplies are believed to be one of the smallest 5 Watt AC-DC supplies, with full international medical safety approvals, on the market. It is available, as standard, in either an encapsulated or open frame mechanical format and measures just 35.6 x 23.7 x 17.6 mm in its open frame format, requiring the minimum of space in the end application.

Saving space & saving cost

The EME05 is approved to the 3rd edition of the international medical safety standards IEC60601-1:2005, EN60601-1:2006 and ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1:2005, providing reinforced (double) insulation with 4000 VAC input /output isolation and two means of patient protection (2 x MOPP). Risk management is included in the approvals.

The convection-cooled series provides eight single output models covering all the popular nominal outputs from 3.3 to 48 VDC. A peak load capability allows up to 130% of the rated output power to be taken for up to 30 seconds, ideal for accommodating application start-up or where a higher load is required for a relatively short period. This approach saves valuable board space and cost, rather than having to specify a higher rated and potentially larger power supply to meet peak load requirements.

The EME05 offers universal AC input and full power across the complete input range of 90-264 VAC without derating and operation down to 85VAVC with just 10% derating.

The product utilizes Class II construction and so does not require an earth/ground connection which, combined with EN55011 Class B EMI conducted and radiated emissions, makes the product ideal for home healthcare applications as well as those for hospital or clinical use. The EME05 meets all requirements IEC60601-1-2 ed.4.0:2014 for EMC and no additional filtering components are required to meet these exacting standards, saving PCB space and BOM costs.

Delivering full power up to +50 degrees C and operating across a wide temperature range from -25 to + 70 degrees C, the EME05 can be used in most environments without the need for any additional heat sinking or forced airflow.
